Manchester City's preparations for the new season have been disrupted after Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte tested positive for coronavirus.

Neither player is showing symptoms of the virus but are required to self-isolate for 10 days - and will have only a matter of days training with the squad before City's first game.

City's campaign starts late, away at Wolverhampton Wanderers on September 21, after being granted an extended break following their participation in last month's Champions League.

Both are expected to be available for the trip to Molineux and will train before then. Their results are understood to have been returned in the days prior to yesterday's announcement.

Manager Pep Guardiola has been undergoing a period of self-isolation after spending his downtime in Barcelona with family following the shock 3-1 defeat by Lyon.

Meanwhile, Angelino is believed to be finalising another loan move to RB Leipzig after impressing for the Bundesliga side towards the end of last term.

The 23-year-old was part of the Leipzig team to reach the Champions League semi-final and excelled at left wing-back.

Leipzig had the option to make the move permanent for £25million this summer but a change in financial circumstances in the wake of Covid has seen the two clubs discuss another temporary switch.

That deal is understood to include a clause giving Julian Nagelsmann's side the option to purchase Angelino for around £18m next year. The Spaniard joined City for £5.3m last summer.

City's current options at left back are Benjamin Mendy and Oleksandr Zinchenko, with new £40m signing Nathan Ake also capable of starring in that position.
