SIK, June 10 -- The new appointment of local authority council (PBT) members in the state will involve representatives from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Department of Health, political parties and non-governmental bodies.
Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said the appointment of the PBT council members would be finalised on June 15 and the respective PBTs have prepared the list of candidates.
"The names have been narrowed down by the political parties and we expect the PBTs which have not finalised the candidate list to do so before June 15.
"We have also re-appointed representatives from the police and the (Department of Health) as council members in Kedah which were done away with in the last session," he told a press conference after chairing a state executive council meeting here today.
He further hoped that with the appointment of the new members, each local authority would be able to provide the infrastructure facilities to meet the needs in the respective areas while preserving the well-being of the people.
Commenting on the issue of Rohingya refugees in Langkawi, Muhammad Sanusi said he had referred the matter to the federal government to make a decision.
"This was already discussed at the exco meeting and as it dealt with issues of territorial waters, security and immigration, we would leave it to the federal government to decide.
"We have also left it to the Immigration Department to determine the status of the Rohingya refugees and on the next course of action," he said.
On Monday, the authorities detained 269 Rohingya refugees and found a dead body on a damaged boat off the resort island of Langkawi.
