JAKARTA, June 20 -- The COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia is showing no signs of improvement with more than 1,000 new cases reported daily in the past week, with the overall tally now standing at 45,029 cases.
Achmad Yurianto, the Indonesian government spokesman on COVID-19 matters, said in the last 24 hours until noon today, another 1,226 new cases and 56 deaths were reported.
So far, 2,429 fatalities have been reported in the country.
“Currently, 13,150 patients are still under COVID-19 surveillance,” he said in his daily press conference broadcast via the National Agency for Disaster Management's (BNPB) official YouTube channel.
East Java remains the province with the highest number of deaths (698 cases), followed by Jakarta (585), West Java (171), South Kalimantan (155) while the rest were in the other provinces.
