Education Malaysia chairman pleads not guilty to CBT involving RM178k

KUALA LUMPUR: Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) chairman Datuk Abdul Rahman Mohamed Shariff has pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here to three counts of criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving RM178,049.

The monies, which belonged to Yayasan Pengurusan Ilmu, was allegedly transferred into three accounts benefiting the accused.


Portions of the money were used for the purchase of an industrial oven and exhaust hood for a coffee shop, as well as two cigar boxes.

The 63-year-old was charged under Section 409 of the Penal Code and faces



three charges of imprisonment between two and 20 years or fine or both, if convicted.

Sessions Court judge Azura Alwi allowed bail at RM100,000 in one surety.

DPP Farah Yasmin Salleh Abdul Rashid Sulaiman prosecuted.

The case is fixed for mention on Feb 13.

EMGS, a wholly-owned company of the Education Ministry, operates a one-stop centre for international student services together with the Immigration Department.
