SEREMBAN: Police have confirmed that the body found by a team looking for Irish teenager Nora Anne Quoirin, who went missing from a resort since Aug 4, is that of a white female.
The human remains were found near Gunung Berembun in Pantai Hills, two kilometres from the resort.
"Our forensics and pathologists are at the crime scene, but we have yet to establish the identity of the victim, " state police chief DCP Datuk Mohamad Mat Yusop told reporters Tuesday (Aug 13).
DCP Mohamad Mat said the search-and-rescue team received a call from the public around 1pm, and a team was immediately sent to the area near a waterfall.
Nora Anne, 15, had checked into the property with her parents, Sebastian Marie Philipe and Meabh Jaseprine Quoirin, and siblings Innes Julia and Maurice Arthure on Aug 3.
However, she was not found in the room she shared with her siblings the following morning.
A window in the room, which could only be opened from the inside, was open.
The girl, who is of French-Irish parentage, has learning difficulties.
It is learnt that the family had planned a two-week stay at the resort.
Apart from the police, others involved in the operation were personnel from the Fire and Rescue Services department, Civil Defence, Rela, as well as Orang Asli from the Senoi Praaq unit, local Orang Asli community and villagers. ends
