PEKAN NENAS: A total of four Malaysian employers, including a businesswoman, were fined a total of RM131,500 for hiring illegals in four separate cases here.

The employers, aged 25 to 47, were fined between RM10,000 and RM50,000 each for allegedly employing foreigners without a proper permit or for harbouring illegals.

Five Thai nationals were among the 15 illegals nabbed at various places, including a reflexology centre, beauty saloon, furniture factory and a nursery.

All the offences were committed in Muar between July 16 and Aug 4.

All the employers paid the fines after being charged at a special court at the Immigration detention depot here.

Sessions court judge Zahilah Mohammad Yusoff presided over the cases, while Immigration prosecutor Norhasimah Othman prosecuted.

The employers were all unrepresented.

At the same court, another employer Wong Chee Siang, 48, pleaded not guilty to hiring seven illegals, including four Myanmar nationals, two Bangladeshi and one Nepali, to work at his furniture factory in Muar.

Zahilah set bail at RM30,000 with one surety and fixed Sept 30 for remention of the case.
