PETALING JAYA: The Conference of Rulers today decided that Perak’s Sultan Nazrin Shah will continue his duties as the acting Agong, following the resignation of Sultan Muhammad V.

The New Straits Times reports that the decision was reached after a meeting attended by six of the nine rulers who form the Conference of Rulers.

The sultans of Selangor, Pahang and Kelantan are not present at today’s meeting, the daily said.

The post of Agong is rotated among the nine Malay rulers. Following Sultan Muhammad V’s resignation, the next in line is Pahang’s Sultan Ahmad Shah, followed by Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar of Johor and Sultan Nazrin Shah.

Sultan Nazrin, who is also the deputy Agong, had served as acting Agong when Sultan Muhammad V was on a two-month leave.
