PETALING JAYA: The deputy secretary-general of the now de-registered MyPPP has hit out at its president M Kayveas for claiming that Barisan Nasional (BN) bullied the party ahead of the May 9 polls.

Simon Sabapathy said it was Kayveas himself who had “sold out” the party by offering to trade the state and parliamentary seats traditionally contested by MyPPP for the Cameron Highlands seat which Kayveas had been eyeing.

The seat was eventually defended by MIC while MyPPP was given the Segambut seat in Kuala Lumpur. The letter which, according to Simon Sabapathy, was sent by M Kayveas to then-Barisan Nasional chairman Najib Razak.

Speaking to FMT, Sabapathy said Kayveas’ offer came to light after then-BN secretary-general Tengku Adnan Mansor showed MyPPP leaders the letter sent to Najib Razak, who was chairman of the coalition at the time.

The letter, sighted by FMT, was purportedly signed by Kayveas on April 9, just a month before the 14th general election in May. In it, the former deputy minister apparently offered to give up the Kepong parliamentary seat and the state seats of Pasir Bedamar (Perak), Kota Alam Shah (Selangor), Kota Laksamana (Melaka) and Guchil (Kelantan) in exchange for Cameron Highlands.

“He wrote to Najib without consulting the MyPPP Supreme Council,” Sabapathy said. “This was in breach of our constitution, and this was why we sacked him on April 24, 2018.

“So his claim of BN bullying MyPPP isn’t true.”

When contacted however, Kayveas claimed Sabapathy was lying, and that MyPPP leaders had conspired with BN leaders against him.

“Their claims are not true,” he told FMT. “They made a deal with Tengku Adnan and collected money for the election without the party’s knowledge.”

He also claimed that other senior MyPPP leaders had given up the seats for the Segambut seat.

Kayveas was offered the Segambut seat to contest in the May 9 polls, but it was reported on April 16 that he had rejected the offer.

He said the MyPPP leaders later held a meeting at a hotel, which was against party rules as meetings are supposed to be held at the MyPPP headquarters, where the decision was made to sack him.

The Registrar of Societies (RoS) de-registered MyPPP earlier this week following a split between rival leaders which arose last year.

The RoS’ letter on the decision was sent to Kayveas and Maglin Dennis D’Cruz, who had both claimed the party presidency.

D’Cruz was behind the move to expel Kayveas as president last year, a decision confirmed unanimously at the 64th MyPPP annual meeting in May just days after the general election.

Kayveas however insisted that he was the rightful president
