Anwar: Give Dr M space to lead govt for agreed upon time

PETALING JAYA: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad must be given the space to lead the government for the agreed upon duration, says his designated successor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The PKR president tweeted the above on Wednesday (Jan 2) after what he said was an hour-long meeting with the Prime Minister.
While the length of the meeting was specified, the exact length of the "agreed upon duration" was not.
According to Anwar, Dr Mahathir has the full support of Pakatan Harapan.
He mentioned that he and Dr Mahathir agreed on "the same strategies regarding Singapore", with the same applying to their focus on the economy, especially with regards to "poverty and inequality".
Prior to GE14, the Pakatan component parties agreed that if the coalition won, Dr Mahathir would be the PM for two years before handing over the reins to Anwar.
Dr Mahathir has said he would keep his word as he is "only a temporary PM", despite calls from within Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia that he keeps the post until the next general election.
