KUALA LUMPUR: Piano prodigy Andrew Kuik, who triumphed at two major international arts festivals recently, was lauded yesterday by no less than Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

“Congratulations to piano prodigy Andrew Kuik for winning the Asia Pacific Arts Festival, as well as the 5th Hong Kong International Youth Performance Arts Festival. You certainly made Malaysia proud!,” he tweeted.

Kuik was overall champion at the Asia Pacific Arts Festival on Jan 27, garnering the highest score in the music category and beating over 200 other participants.

The 13-year-old, who is studying at the Nexus International School, is the youngest contestant in the open category for piano performance.

He played Piano Sonata No 10 in C by Haydn, and Danzas Argentinas by Ginastera, which received compliments from members of the panel of judges hailing from various countries. – Bernama
