Manager killed in superbike accident laid to rest

JOHOR BARU: It was supposed to be joyful day for a manager celebrating his birthday.
Instead, grieving family members and friends turned up to attend his funeral Thursday when he was killed in an accident during a superbike convoy.
Jaffry Jaafar, 49, and his wife Nor Syakila as the pillion rider, were on their way back to Malaysia with 10 others on five superbikes when he was killed in the incident in Haadyai, Thailand, on Tuesday.

Instead, grieving family members and friends turned up to attend his funeral Thursday when he was killed in an accident during a superbike convoy.
Jaffry Jaafar, 49, and his wife Nor Syakila as the pillion rider, were on their way back to Malaysia with 10 others on five superbikes when he was killed in the incident in Haadyai, Thailand, on Tuesday.
He was involved in an accident with a motorcycle ridden by a Thai national and died while his wife suffered severe injuries.
Jaffry’s mother Kamsiah Sileman, 66, said that before leaving for the trip, he told her his wish to have a family gathering with all of his seven siblings on his birthday.
“It was devastating for me - Jaffry, my eldest son, was a responsible and caring person and would check on me almost every day despite already having a family of his own and staying in Kuala Lumpur," she said when met at his funeral at the Cahaya Masai Muslim cemetery here Thursday.
Family members and friends gathered at the cemetery to bid their last goodbye, including Jaffry’s widow Nor Syakila Burhanuddin, 45, who was on a wheelchair still recovering from the accident. They have four children.
Jaffry’s friend Razimi Mohamed, 45, who was among those who in the convoy, said he was travelling behind Jaffry’s superbike when the incident occurred.
“I saw the collision and due to the impact, Jaffry lost control of his bike and fell,” he said, adding that both Jaffry and his wife were rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Jaffry’s body arrived at his parents’ home in Taman Kota Puteri, Masai, here at around 9.45am and was laid to rest at around 11.10am.
