Sixteen-year-old girl almost raped by youth she met on WeChat





MIRI: A teenage girl was molested and almost raped by a 20-year-old man she befriended on WeChat, just five days after meeting him online near here.

The girl, aged 16, lodged a police report over the incident that happened on Wednesday night.

It is learnt that the youth had tried to ask her out on a date, but she declined.

The spurned youth then went to her house located in a kampung in the outskirts of Miri, using the address she provided during their exchanges.



In her report, the girl claimed he forcibly entered her room, stripped off her clothes and tried to rape her.

The girl said she put up a struggle and her brother, hearing the commotion, came to her aid.

Police are now looking for the youth who managed to escape after the attempted rape.

Miri police chief Asst Comm Khoo Leng Huat confirmed the incident and said the girl was sent to the Miri Hospital for a check-up, which revealed that she had not been raped.

ACP Khoo said police are now searching for the suspect.
