KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has ordered the withdrawal of a letter issued by the Malacca Umno liaison committee calling for a meeting to coordinate the Red Shirts rally, which is planned to take place in the city here on Nov 19.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the letter was not an instruction from the party.
"As the secretary-general, I have told them to withdraw the letter and not to participate in the Red or Yellow rallies.
"Individually, we do not know if they (party members) participate, but as a party, we are not involved. The rallies have nothing to do with Umno," he said.
Asked if any disciplinary action would be taken against party members found to have taken part in the rallies, Tengku Adnan said; "We are not here to suggest anything. We have advised them not to get involved.
"We will leave Jamal and Maria Chin and whoever wants to participate to the police," he said, referring to Sungai Besar Umno chief Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos and Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah.
He also rubbished claims that RM50 would be paid to those who participated in the Red Shirts rally.
