A doctor who was on duty at Serdang Hospital found himself being thrown to the ground, tackled and handcuffed by men clad in black masks yesterday over a case of mistaken identity.

The doctor, who serves in the Serdang Hospital cardiology department, was at the foodstalls in the hospital carpark when he suddenly found himself being set upon by members of the federal Special Task Force on Organised Crime (Stafoc) who were clad in black full tactical gear, balaclavas and carried heavy firearms, The Sun Daily reports.

The unfortunate case of mistaken identity led to the doctor sustaining injuries after being set upon by the team of heavily armed men numbering more than a dozen. The unidentified doctor later lodged a police report over his ordeal.

He said he had decided to run just like other hospital staff and bystanders when the Stafoc team descended, as he thought the masked men were robbers since he did not see police logos on their attire. The doctor was however reportedly clad in his white hospital coat with his stethoscope around his neck but the Stafoc team set upon him regardless.Filepic: antarapos

The police organized crime special forces team had been sent to Serdang Hospital following a tip-off that seven suspects related to a robbery case in Kajang earlier were spotted having their meals at the hospital's food stall.

The doctor was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time when the elite team arrived at the hospital compound, leading to Stafoc personnel who tackled him to the ground. Another senior doctor had also tried to intervene in vouching for the doctor's identity but he was still taken away in handcuffs.

Sepang police chief ACP Abdul Aziz Ali, who confirmed the incident, said an investigation on the doctor's report is being carried out, The Sun Daily reports.

"The complainant alleged that he was roughed up by members of the raiding party and the incident had brought him embarrassment.

"I give assurance that a comprehensive probe is ongoing and whoever was involved (in the case) will not be spared (of action). While the investigations are progressing, we urge the public not to make speculations about the case," ACP Abdul Aziz said.
