Miss Indonesia crowned 2016 Miss Grand International as Miss Philippines takes the runners up spot.



Philippines' Nicole Cordoves wins 1st runner-up in Miss Grand International 2016

Nicole CordovMetro Manila (CNN Philippines) — The Philippines' bet Nicole Cordoves lost the crown to Miss Indonesia at the 2016 Miss Grand International on Wednesday (PHT).


Cordoves, 24, was named first runner-up in the competition held at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino in Las Vegas which was streamed on Facebook Live.

In the question and answer round, the top five contenders were asked which of the two leading U.S. presidential candidates they will choose to help them stop war and violence.

Cordoves chose the U.S. Republican nominee Donald Trump.

She was booed by the audience.

"That's why let's keep the peace and let Donald Trump switch to our side to stop the war and violence," Cordoves replied.

The 2015 winner, Claire Elizabeth Parker of Australia passed her crown on to Miss Indonesia, Ariska Putri Pertiwi.

Rounding out Miss Indonesia's 2016 court were Cordoves as 1st runner-up, followed by Miss Thailand, 2nd; Miss Puerto Rico, 3rd; and Miss USA, 4th.

Miss Grand International is part of the so-called "Grand Slam of Beauty Pageants" which include Miss International, Miss World, and Miss Universe.

Miss Grand International adopted the campaign theme "Stop the War," the contest organizers said in a press release.

"Its titleholders and delegates spread the message about peace, unity and understanding," it added.
