The local government of Muntinlupa City on Monday debunked a viral post saying that President Rodrigo Duterte went incognito to inspect the traffic situation in the city.

Public Information Officer Tez Navarro told GMA News Online in a phone interview that the post by the Facebook page Duterte for Real Change on Sunday night was not true.

The viral post claimed that Duterte rode his motorcycle around Muntinlupa and noticed that vendors caused heavy traffic in the city market.

"Digong told Fresnedi he wanted all the vendors out of the streets and inside the market selling area. The last 2 days, no traffic and extremely peaceful to walk around the market area," the post read.

Navarro belied this, however.

"It is not true," Navarro told GMA News Online. "How we wish [he will visit]. We will be honored to have the President in Muntinlupa."

As of 7:20 p.m, the post has been shared at least 17,500 times and liked 36,300 times.

According to a tweet by @OFFICIALMUNTI, the local government conducted a clearing operation along Alabang viaduct and sidewalks on July 12.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi was not present because he attended the World Cities Summit in Singapore.

GMA News Online reached out to presidential spokesperson Ernie Abella, Presidential Communications Officer chief Martin Andanar, and Special Assistant to the President Bong Go for comment but they are yet to respond as of posting time. —JST, GMA News

GMA News calls out a website for publishing a fake Duterte story (and Mocha Uson reacts)

This story tells us very little about the President. It's actually an interesting model of how media works nowadays.
Yesterday, a post by the Facebook page Duterte for Real Change went viral. It was about how President Rodrigo Duterte supposedly roamed the streets of Muntinlupa incognito to inspect the traffic situation in the city. It was shared at least 17,500 times and liked 36,300 times.
Considering the President's character, the story is not completely out-of-this-world. He did roam around Davao at night when he was still mayor.
On Mon night, however, the Muntinlupa local government debunked the viral story in a GMA News article.
"It is not true," said Public Information Officer Tez Navarro. "How we wish [he will visit]. We will be honored to have the President in Muntinlupa."
GMA News reached out to presidential spokesperson Ernie Abella, Presidential Communications Officer chief Martin Andanar, and Special Assistant to the President Bong Go for comment but they are yet to respond.
Meanwhile, staunch Duterte supporter Mocha Uson also has something to say.
"Mga ka-DDS wag po tayong basta basta maniniwala sa mga bali-balita sa Social Media. Gawain po ng mga dilawan ito noong panahong ng campaign upang ma discredit ang mga DUTERTE Supporters. Nagpapalabas sila ng kung ano ano balita upang iligaw ang mga issue at pasinungalingan ang mga Duterte Page," Mocha said on her post.
("Duterte die-hard supporters, don't easily believe the news you see on social media. The yellow camp used to do this to discredit the Duterte supporters. They release different kinds of news to stray away from important issues and discredit Duterte pages.")
Before you think that Mocha is attacking GMA News, she did clarify herself in the comments section.
She even encouraged her fellow Duterte supports to NOT share the fake article.
The lesson here? The online world is a crazy place. Be careful of what you read online!
