KOTA SAMARAHAN: A woman is believed to have poisoned her two children before taking her own life in the family's home in Kampung Baru here last night.
The body of the 37-year-old woman was found hanging inside the toilet while her two sons' lifeless forms were found inside the bedroom about 8pm.
Neighbours had sensed something amiss as the house was too quiet. They alerted the police, which then deployed a team to check on the occupants.
Kota Samarahan district police chief Deputy Superintendent Lee Chong Chern said one of the two children, aged four, was still breathing when policemen arrived.
The boy however died upon arriving at the Sarawak General Hospital's (SGH) Heart Centre.
The boy's elder brother, aged seven, however, was already dead when the team arrived at the house.
Lee said his men recovered a bottle of bleach without its cap next to the bodies of the children.
"Our checks on the boys when we arrived showed that the area around their mouths had darkened, suggesting poisoning.
"We believe the woman had poisoned her children before committing suicide as no elements of foul play were found at the premise," said Lee.
All the bodies were sent to the SGH's forensic department in Kuching for post mortem.
It was understood that police are in the midst of gathering information from family members and friends to ascertain the motive behind the tragedy.
