MIRI: A police outrider was injured after his motorcycle was rammed by a car at a traffic light junction in Jalan Merbau here today.
Lance Corporal Mohd Nur Iman Ngarif, 24, sustained injuries on his right shoulder and body as well as his mouth in the 5pm incident.
Nur Iman was escorting a convoy of officials for the ongoing 18th Malaysian Games (Sukma) when the accident occurred.
Sarawak Traffic Police Officer Deputy Superintendent Alexson Naga Chabu said Nur Iman was manning traffic at the scene to make way for the convoy when he was rammed by a Toyota Avanza.
“The traffic policeman was stopping other vehicles to ensure smooth passage for the Sukma convoy.
“The driver of the Avanza, however, did not heed the order and proceeded instead but ended up crashing into our man,” said Alexson.
Nur Iman was rushed to the Miri Hospital for treatment. He is in stable condition.
