Three-year jail term for man who robbed tourist

KUALA LUMPUR: He brought ill repute to Malaysia by robbing a tourist, and will pay dearly for it.
Unemployed Rahimi Wahdanur Daifi, 27, was yesterday sentenced to three years jail by the Session's Court for robbing a foreign tourist, with another person still at large.
He pleaded guilty to robbing RM350 from Nariman Ayoubi, a student, at Jalan Ampang at 2am on March 30.
According to facts of the case, Nariman who was walking along Jalan Ampang alone, when he was suddenly punched in the face by Rahimi and another person, and had his wallet stolen.
Both suspects ran after stealing his wallet containing RM350 but Rahimi was apprehended by some auxiliary policemen, close to the scene of the crime.
In requesting for a deterrent sentence, deputy public prosecutor Nurakmal Farhan Aziz said that Rahimi's action has brought shame and disgrace to Malaysia, as he had robbed a visiting foreigner.
"He also punched the victim in the face and stole the money. Such crimes are rampant, especially in the vicinity of the city centre."
The unrepresented Rahimi in mitigation told Judge Balqis Aini Mohd Ali that he was a divorced man with a young child and an aged father to support.
Rahimi's sentence will take effect from his date of arrest, March 30.
