Security guard foils robbery attempt at Dataran Mentari

PETALING JAYA: A security guard managed to foil a robbery attempt at an International Money Express branch in Dataran Mentari here when he shot one of the suspects in the leg.
Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Mohd Zani Che Din said in the 2pm incident, the suspect with two other accomplices broke the padlock and grill of the unit while six other workers were inside the premise.
He said when a security guard emerged, they tried to slash him with a parang, but the guard managed to open fire and shot the suspect on his left leg.
"The two other suspects fled on a motorbike," he told reporters when met at the scene here.
He added that the injured suspect crawled outside the premise and fainted before police arrived at the scene.
"We seized a parang from the scene," Mohd Zani said, adding that the suspect was taken to the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) for treatment.
Mohd Zani said police will view the closed-circuit television (CCTV) installed in the premise to see if more suspects were involved in the botched armed robbery attempt.
"For now, at least three suspects were involved and we will view the CCTV to trail the other two suspects.
"Luckily, no customers were inside the premise during the incident," he said.
Mohd Zani said the case is being investigated under Section 393 of the Penal Code for attempted robbery.
