Umno Blogger In Hot Water With MCMC After Questioning Deputy Prime Minister’s Trip To Indonesia
In a post on September 20, Shahbudin Husin questioned on his blog shahbudindotcom about the odds of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s official visit which coincided with his son’s wedding reception there.
His post titled ‘Kenapa Lawatan Rasmi Zahid Ke Indonesia Sama Tarikh Dengan Majlis Sanding Anaknya Di Jakarta’ (Why Zahid’s Official Visit To Indonesia Coincides With His Son’s Wedding Reception In Jakarta) led him into being summoned by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) yesterday.
Today, Shahbudin wrote about his experience, being investigated by the MCMC, under Section 233 of the Multimedia and Communications Act 1998 which makes it an offence to publish indecent, obscene, false, menacing, or offensive materials to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any person.
“MCMC took my statement in the wake of a complaint lodged by one of Zahid Hamidi’s aides in the office with regards to the article I wrote.
“A day earlier, MCMC staff came by my house to send a message, an ‘Attendance Order’ which enforces me to comply with the order issued.
“I explained to the MCMC officer that the article only questioned the coincidence of the trip and wedding reception, and in no way was an accusation against Zahid Hamidi.
“In addition, I used a lot of question marks in my writing, and also stated in one paragraph ‘To avoid persecution and misunderstanding, Zahid must explain honestly and openly’,” he said indicating his intention of writing the article.
Shahbudin expressed that it was his first time being questioned by MCMC, and concluded in his post that he was grateful with the professionalism shown by the MCMC officer while recording his statement for two hours.
