KUALA LUMPUR: Police busted a South American house break-in syndicate with the arrests of four foreigners, seizing RM150,000 worth of valuables.
City police chief Comm Datuk Tajuddin Md Isa said the four men, aged between 28 and 29, were detained at a condominium in Bukit Jalil at about 4am on Monday.
"In the rented unit, we seized items believed to have been used for house break-ins, a BMW, eight handphones, 19 luxury watches, jewellery, laptops, passports and tenancy agreement believed to belong to the victims that had their residence broken into by this group.
"They are responsible for at least 10 cases - five in Brickfields and the rest in other areas of Klang Valley. The cases are solved with the arrests of the men," he said at a press conference at the Brickfields district headquarters here Monday.
Checks by police revealed that the group had entered Malaysia early September this year on social visit passes.
"They would target high-end areas like Bukit Damansara.
"Preliminary investigation also revealed that they carried out their activities between 6pm and 10pm," he said.
Based on evidence, Comm Tajuddin said the group would first climb up the fence of a targeted residence before smashing the window at the back of the house or prying open the grille to gain access.
The suspects are being remanded until Sunday.
