PETALING JAYA: Three Umno leaders have denied a viral message that they would be making a police report against 1Malaysia Development Bhd.

The message, which went viral early Thursday, claimed that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal would lodge a report against 1MDB in Putrajaya and Dang Wangi police stations on Friday morning.

The message also claimed that all three Umno leaders would head to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya to lodge another report.

An aide to Dr Mahathir confirmed to The Star Online that the message is false and the former prime minister has no plan to lodge any report against the government investment firm.

Muhyiddin also confirmed via Facebook that the message of him lodging a report is false.

"The whatsapp message that has been spreading, which claimed that Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will be lodging a police report is FALSE," he said in a post uploaded by the administrator of his Facebook account.

Shafie's aide was quoted in a news portal saying "Please ignore the message that is circulating as it is not true".

Muhyiddin and Shafie were dropped from the Cabinet in July after they openly questioned the government's handling of 1MDB and the RM2.6bil in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's account.

The duo have teamed up with Dr Mahathir to criticise the handling of 1MDB.

On Monday, they and other veteran Barisan Nasional leaders held a press conference to condemn the detention of 1MDB critics, former Umno man Datuk Khairuddin Abu Hassan and lawyer Matthias Chang, under laws meant for terrorism.
