KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has instructed his lawyer to demand an apology from former MCA president Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik for allegedly calling for Najib to step down as Prime Minister, TV14 news portal reported.
The alleged call by Dr Ling was published in an English news portal two days ago.
According to TV14, a letter to the effect was served by hand to Dr Ling on Monday by the law firm of Messrs Hafarizam Wan and Aisha Mubarak on behalf of Najib in his personal capacity and among others, it demanded that the former transport minister to apologise within seven days.
The portal reported that failure to do so would result in legal action being taken against Dr Ling.According to TV14, lawyer Datuk Hafarizam Harun, who represented the firm, said in the letter to Dr Ling that the remarks made by him were defamatory and had damaged the reputation of the Prime Minister, besides being inclined to bring down Najib's image in the eyes of the people.
The portal said that Hafarizam had also demanded that Dr Ling retract the alleged remarks, issue an unequivocal apology and pay a reasonable compensation as restitution. - BERNAMA
