KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 — A former Umno assemblyman died after he was shot in the face outside his house near Marang, Terengganu today.

Police confirmed that the incident involving former Alor Limbat assemblyman, Alias Abdullah, took place at his home at Kampung Alor Limbat this afternoon.

“He was shot in his cheek around 2-something this afternoon at his home,” Terengganu police chief, Datuk Rosli Abd Rahman toldMalay Mail Online when contacted.

He added that Alias died while being rushed to the nearest clinic after being shot by unidentified assailants.

The body was sent to the Kuala Terengganu Hospital for a post-mortem, the police chief said.

Rosli refused, however, to comment further on the possible motive for the murder or the suspects, saying only that his forensics team was investigating on location.

“My team is there now, I can’t say anymore until we have a conclusive investigation. Once we have more updates, we will keep everyone posted,” he explained.

Alias, a lawyer by training, had been a two-term assemblyman for Alor Limbat constituency from 2004 to 2013.

He had also been the Umno Marang division secretary before from 2004 to 2008.
