WARNING: Graphic content.
HE WAS tied up and tortured to death with a metal rod for almost half an hour.
And it was all for Facebook.
Those accused of the brutal murder of teenager Samiul Alam Rajon not only subjected the 13-year-old to prolonged beatings but they filmed the attack on a mobile phone so they could upload it to the social media site for the “whole world” to see, according to the Dhaka Tribune.
Young Rajon was set upon by a group of up to four men on July 8 who accused him of trying to steal a rickshaw in the north-eastern city of Sylhet in Bangledesh.
His lifeless battered body was found just 180m from where he was attacked.
A post-mortem examination revealed the teen had more than 60 injury marks on his body, and severe blows to his head which cause a brain haemorrhage.
In the footage, which was posted on July 12, it shows a terrified Rajon, whose left hand and right leg are tied to a pillar, crying out in agony as he is beaten with the metal rod repeatedly at the deserted Kumargaon Bus Station on the outskirts of the city.
One of the men who is seen hitting Rajon repeatedly asks the teen to tell them his name, and admit to stealing the rickshaw.
When the teen asks for water, the men tell him to drink his own sweat and burst into laughter, the Tribune reported.
In another part of the footage the men untie the teen, walk him and then one allegedly says:
“His bones are apparently intact, beat him more.”
So they tie him to the pole again and beat him further.
A voice then asks the man who was filming if it had been captured properly.
“I have posted it in Facebook. The whole world will see it now,” the man replies, according to the Dhaka Tribune.
The men then laugh, telling their young victim they were planning to post his beating on Facebook.
After the boy died, the attackers allegedly dumped his body 180m away from where he was attacked.
But they were spotted by passer-bys who then chased them, according to the BBC.
Three men escaped but one was caught. Another was arrested shortly after.
Police then detained the main suspect in Saudi Arabia.
Since the horrific video was posted online, it has gone viral and sparked massive protests across Bangladesh demanding justice for young Rajon.
It has emerged the teenager had to drop out of school to become a vegetable vendor to help feed his family and on the day of the attack, had left his home early to work because his father was away.
When he failed to return home that day his mother, Lubna Akhtar, travelled to the local police station to report him missing. When she arrived she was told a boy’s body had been found earlier in the day.
It turned out to be Rajon, the Dhaka Tribune reported.
Revulsion over the attack has also spread to the US and Australia with locals creating petitions and funding pages to help Rajon’s family.
A petition on Change.org by an Australian only known as JD JD calling on the Prime Minister of Bangladesh to make sure justice is served for Rajon has received more than 19,000 signatures so far.
The hashtag #JusticeforRajon has also been trending on Twitter with many voicing their disgust over the attack and calls for those responsible to be dealt with severely.
Following the arrest of the four men, Bangladesh police created a special squad to investigate the case.
