KUALA LUMPUR: Samsung has launched its highly-anticipated flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.
The Android devices have Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on the front and back, and are surrounded by an aircraft-grade aluminium frame, both of which ensure maximum toughness.
Both smartphones feature metallic “jewel tone” finishes and come in White Pearl, Black, Sapphire, Gold Platinum, Blue Topaz (exclusive to S6) and Emerald Green (S6 Edge only) colours.
According to Samsung Electronics Malaysia vice-president of IT and mobile division Lee Jui Siang, the design of the smartphones was influenced in part by consumer feedback.
They also share many hardware specifications, but the Galaxy S6 has a more conventional design with a flat screen while the S6 Edge is slightly taller and has a screen that curves around both sides of the smartphone.
The curved sides of the Galaxy S6 Edge display notifications and incoming calls, which can be seen even when the phone is facedown.
The device’s front 5-megapixel and rear 16-megapixel cameras have bright f/1.9 apertures, enabling better pictures in low-light situations.
Samsung has also partnered with Microsoft to provide S6 and S6 Edge buyers with 100GB of Microsoft OneDrive online storage for free for two years.
For Malaysian consumers, Lee said Samsung will provide a free personalised pick-up service during the warranty period if there is no service centre within the buyer’s area.
Users can take the devices to any Samsung service centre for a seven-point check, which includes firmware upgrades and performance tests.
The 32GB Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge cost RM2,599 and RM3,099 respectively and will be available from April 17.
