In the Facebook account, the letter signed off by one ‘Ivan Goh Lee’ urged a mosque to lower the volume of their azan prayers. ― Reuters picGEORGE TOWN, April 15 — A man whose name and photograph were used to set up a fake anti-Islam Facebook account, said today he had nothing to do with it or the letter asking to lower the azan volume at a mosque.
The man, Ivan Goh, lodged a report at the Northeast district police headquarters after midnight when he discovered his identity had been used in the letter that was posted on the fake Facebook account.
Northeast district police chief ACP Mior Farid Alathrash Wahid confirmed the report and said Goh denied having anything to do with the Facebook account or the letter.
“He came to lodge a police report to deny that the Facebook account was his and that he did not have anything to do with the contents of the Facebook account,” he said.
Mior said Goh has his own Facebook account and that it was not the one that had posted the letter.
He also confirmed receiving numerous police reports from several non-governmental organisations against the Facebook postings under Goh’s name.
“We are investigating the reports by the NGOs under Section 298 A of the Penal Code for causing disharmony and have already recorded a statement from Goh on the issue,” he said.
In the Facebook account, the letter signed off by one “Ivan Goh Lee” urged a mosque to lower the volume of their azan prayers, failing which the issue will be forwarded to the city council to demand its demolition.
The post had raised the ire of Penang Perkasa and some Umno divisions here, and a small group even gathered outside the district police headquarters to stage a short protest before lodging police reports.
