GEORGE TOWN: A father and son claimed trial in a magistrate’s court here to spitting at and slapping a police corporal who had issued them a summons in Patani Road here.
Shaik Abdul Shukor Shaik Abdul Wahab, 31, and his father Shaik Abdul Wahab Shaik Ibrahim, 67, from Bukit Mertajam, are jointly charged with using criminal force on Kpl Mohamed Sharul Nizam by spitting and slapping the latter to prevent him from carrying out his duty at around 9.50pm on Wednesday.
Both denied the offence under Section 353 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to two years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
DPP Nur Farhana Hashim proposed a RM5,000 bail for each of the accused.
In pleading for a lower bail amount, counsel Muhamad Asri Abdul Hamid, who represented both, said Shaik Abdul Shukor was a businessman while Shaik Abdul Wahab had retired.
He said both his clients’ wives were not working, adding that both his clients had health problems.
Magistrate L. Umma Devi allowed bail at RM3,000 each in one surety and fixed May 19 for mention pending submission of documents.
It was reported that two traffic policemen had stopped a car in Patani Road, after two men in the car were seen not wearing their seat belts.
OCPD Asst Comm Mior Faridala-thrash Wahid was quoted as saying that the car driver had pleaded with one of the policeman not to issue them with a summons, but was ignored.
The driver’s father then scolded the policeman with vulgar words after he was handed the summons before spitting on the latter’s face.
The driver then got out of the car and gave the policeman a slap when he tried to arrest the father.
