Boy was ‘suffocated by relative’

MALACCA: THE 2-year-old boy, whose skeletal remains were found buried behind a house in Bukit Katil on Sunday, is believed to have died by suffocation after someone, believed to be a relative, had covered his face with a pillow.
Melaka Tengah district police acting chief Superintendent Razali Bakar said police investigations revealed that the 25-year-old suspect had committed the act to stop the child from crying.
“It is learnt the child was crying non-stop prior to the incident.
“We are investigating whether the suspect’s action was intentional.”
Razali said the suspect and his 24-year-old lover were initially probed for a vehicle theft case. Further investigations revealed their involvement in the current case.
It was earlier reported that the skeletal remains of what appeared to be a 2-year-old male, believed to be a murder victim, were found buried in a shallow grave behind a double-storey terrace house in Taman Bayan, Bukit Katil.
Police found the remains at 7am on Sunday after they arrested the couple in a house in Muar, Johor, at 2am on the same day.
The suspects led police to the site where the victim was buried.
The couple have been put under remand until next Saturday to facilitate investigations under section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
