OSCARS 2014: All The Photobombs, Selfies And Bloopers You Missed
Published by Melody Oei
Hollywood's biggest stars came together at the Dolby Theatre on Sunday, 3 March 2014, for the 86th Academy Awards. Here's everything that happened!
Celebrity Host Tyson Beckford Made A Major Blooper When He Misnamed Julia Roberts And Called Her "Jessica Roberts"
- If you saw the name "Jessica Roberts" trending on Twitter tonight, it wasn't because there was some hot new actress arriving on the carpet. Nope, it was because Beckford, who was reporting the arrivals live for ABC, called Julia Roberts...Jessica Roberts.
- In his defense, he corrected himself immediately and a Jessica Biel shot was in line to pop up next, but those very rational reasons for his screw-up didn’t stop the name “Jessica Roberts” from trending on Twitter.
Ellen Made History When Her Oscar Selfie Tweet Became The Most Retweeted Tweet Of All Time
- The tweet, which the Oscar host sent out during the broadcast with the help of stars like Meryl Streep, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Lupita Nyong’o and Brad Pitt, received more than 921,000 retweets in less than 40 minutes. It went on to get more than a million retweets and counting.
- The previously most retweeted tweet was one sent by the Twitter account @barackobama when the president won re-election. It simply said, “Four more years.” (Note: @barackobama isn’t controlled directly by President Obama or the White House.)
Jennifer Lawrence Tripped, Yet Again (She Tripped At The 2013 Oscars Too), This Time Over A Cone
Jared Leto Gave A Heartwarming Acceptance Speech For His Best Supporting Actor Award, "This Is For The 36 Million People Who Have Lost The Battle To AIDS"
- Actor Jared Leto expressed his support for protesters in Ukraine and Venezuela during his acceptance speech for the Best Supporting Actor award at the Oscars on Sunday, making him the first celebrity at the event to acknowledge the two major events dominating world news right now.
- In his acceptance speech, Leto heaped praise on his mother and brother — both of whom were in attendance — and thanked a long list of people involved in the film, including Canadian director Jean-Marc Vallée.
Leonardo DiCaprio Didn't Take Home The Best Actor Award...
- This year DiCaprio was nominated again for lead actor in the corporate greed tale “The Wolf of Wall Street.”
- As early as 1994 DiCaprio received a supporting actor Oscar nomination for "What's Eating Gilbert Grape," but lost to Tommy Lee Jones for "The Fugitive." DiCaprio was later nominated for lead actor Oscars in 2005 for “The Aviator” and in 2007 for “Blood Diamond,” and lost.
Winners Of The 2014 Oscars, COMPLETE LIST:
- “Gravity” also proved to be a big winner on Sunday, stealing seven academy awards from Best Director through to Best Visual Effects, even though Sandra Bullock lost out on her Best Actress award to Cate Blanchett who was “blown away” by her win for “Blue Jasmine.”
- An array of brilliants films were up for nomination, but "12 Years a Slave” ultimately took home the honors for its incredible story of Solomon Northup, a free man who struggles to survive as a slave in pre-Civil War America, while Lupita Nyong'o gave a touching tribute speech for her Best Supporting Actress win for the same film.
- Meanwhile, Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto took home Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor respectively for their unforgettable performances in "Dallas Buyers Club."
