KAJANG (March 23):  PKR has retained the Kajang state seat in today’s by-election.

This follows a lower voter turnout of 72% compared to 88.4% during GE13.

He also appealed to all political parties not to hold any campaigns or celebrations after the result are announced as it might provoke the sentiments of their supporters."This is just a state level election and the result would not affect the Selangor political landscape," he added.

5pm
Polling closes with an unofficial voter turnout of about 70%,  a far cry from the 80% target set by Pakatan Rakyat. The focus now shifts to the MPKj Sports Complex in Bangi where the counting of votes will be done and the final results announced. The EC said the results were expected as early 9pm. There is very tight security at the sports complex and even the police K9 unit is present.

4.40pm:
With just 20 minutes before polling centres close, it is very unlikely that Pakatan Rakyat will meet its targeted 80% voter turnout. Pakatan had earlier aimed to better its majority for the state seat compared to GE13, but chances of achieving this seem unlikely based on the voter turnout.

4.30pm
As of 4pm, EC says 25,511 voters or 67.04% have cast their votes.

4pm
There is concern over the poor turnout which is just over 60% as of now. PKR has sent out its campaigners in a last minute effort to bring voters to the polling centres. The crowds at polling centres are fizzling out and no untoward incidents have been reported.

1.20pm
As of 12 noon, 15,529 (40.81%) voters have cast their votes, says EC.

12.23pm
A heated argument broke out between a popular stall (well known for its fried dishes) and Pakatan Rakyat supporters, when the stall refused more customers and wanted to close their business for the day. Party members demanded to be served but the stall was already packing up and a heated argument broke out.
More level headed party members calmed the store owner and the supporters down although it was obvious that BN did not have a monopoly on expletives.
It seemed that some of those that dined at the stall did not pay their bill. However, later the owner of the stall's lot showed up and promised to pay on all losses.
fz.com overheard that the PKR member who provoked the stall operators also threatened to shut down the stall once they won the election.

"Can you imagine they placed Channel 1 on the first floor (instead of ground floor). Channel one is for the old folks... this is just common sense, you don't make a 70-year-old climb up a staircase... someone just complained to me just now," said Anwar.
