Stench from apartment leads to discovery of murder victim's decomposing body

SHAH ALAM: A complaint of a putrid stench bothering residents of Sri Angkasa Apartment led to the discovery of a murder victim's decomposing body.
The 27-year-old victim, who was renting a unit in the apartment block, is believed to have been dead for six days after suffering blunt force trauma to the head.
The victim's landlady, Sarjit Kaur, 40, said the stench prompted residents to contact her.
“My tenant had been complaining about a leaking pipe in the apartment, and I told the management that the smell must have been caused by the leak,” she said.
When she went to the apartment to inspect the source of the stench on 12.30pm Thursday, she saw traces of dried blood on the floor leading to the living room.
"We were too afraid to enter the apartment so we contacted the police," said Sarjit.
Police arrived at the apartment and found the man, known only as Ashok, lying dead on the kitchen floor.
A police source said that three helmets were found in the apartment, with one believed to be the murder weapon.
"There were cracks on one of the helmets, which lead us to believe that the perpetrator may have used it as a weapon,” added the source.
Sarjit, a senior sales administrator in Subang Jaya, said that her tenant was a quiet and religious man.
"We used to see him spending time with his family at a lake nearby. His death really shocked me," added Sarjit.
It is understood that Ashok had been staying at the apartment since January last year with his wife, mother and sister.
"He was happy staying here and wanted to renew the lease," said Sarjit.
Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Zahedi Ayub said that the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
