MORE than 100 passengers were evacuated from the plane on the runway at Houston airport in the southern United States on Sunday due to engine problems, according to federal authorities and airlines.
No injuries were reported after the United Airlines (UAL. O) Flight 1382 received a signal about one of the engines and stopped the takeoff while the plane was still on the runway, the airline said.
"Passengers left the plane on the runway using a combination of slides and stairs and were then taken by bus to the terminal," according to the company's statement. The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said it would investigate the incident that occurred at around 8:35 a.m. local time at George Bush International Airport.
The Airbus A319 was carrying 104 passengers and five crew members, and was supposed to depart for New York's La Guardia Airport, the airline said.
The Houston fire department wrote on X: "HFD did not extinguish the fire in this incident."
Last week, a regional passenger plane belonging to American Airlines (AAL. O) had a mid-air collision with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter and crashed into the Potomac River near Washington's Reagan National Airport.
