CHEONAN : A bridge collapsed at a highway construction site in Cheonan on Tuesday, killing three workers and injuring five others, Yonhap News Agency reported citing authorities.
The incident occurred at around 9.50 a.m. local time during construction work on the Seoul-Sejong expressway.
Five 50-meter-long steel beams supporting the bridge collapsed one after another during construction works. All eight victims who were killed or injured were under the bridge at the time of the incident.
The National Fire Agency deployed its personnel to search for the missing victims in the incident.
Acting President Choi Sang-mok issued an emergency order to use all available resources and manpower for rescue operations.
