CAIRO: Kuwaiti Crown Prince Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has been declared the new Emir of Kuwait following the death of his brother Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, reports Sputnik quoting a Kuwait Television report on Saturday.
The declaration of the 83-year-old Crown Prince as the new Emir was announced by Kuwait's council of ministers, according to a televised statement.
Earlier, Kuwait's Minister for Cabinet Affairs Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah said Emir Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, 86, died on Saturday.
Kuwait’s emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah has died at the age of 86 years after serving for just three years as the ruler of the oil rich country in the Middle East. Sheikh Nawaf was struggling with an ailing health, however, the cause of his death hasn’t been disclosed yet. Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber was announced as his successor minutes after the death of Sheikh Nawaf.
