Muhyiddin pleaded not guilty to receiving RM5 million in illegal activity money

 Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin pleaded not guilty to the charge of receiving money from illegal activities amounting to RM5 million which was deposited into the Bersatu party account.

He made the plea in the Shah Alam Sessions Court after the charges were read out before Judge Rozilah Salleh.

According to the charges, he who is also the former Prime Minister received money from illegal activities amounting to RM5 million from Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd which was deposited into the party's AmBank account.

The offense was committed at AmBank Amcorp Mall branch, Jalan Persiaran Barat, Petaling Jaya, on 7 January 2022.

The prosecution was made in accordance with Section 4(1)(b) together with Section 87(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorist Financing and Proceeds of Illegal Activities Act 2001 (Act 613).

Conviction can result in a maximum prison sentence of 15 years and a fine of not less than five times the value of the bribe.

Meanwhile, the prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutors, Ahmad Akram Gharib, Mohd Fadhly Mohd Zamry, Zander Lim Wai Keong, Kalai Vani Annadorai and Maziah Mohaide.

While Muhyiddin was represented by nine lawyers including Datuk K. Kumaraendran, Chetan Jethwani, Dev Kumaraendran and Mohamad Isa Mohammad Basir.

In the meantime, the court allowed the accused to be bailed at RM2 million with two sureties as well as the additional condition of surrendering his passport until the trial is over.

In related developments, the prosecution applied for the case to be transferred to the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court.

The judge then allowed the application in addition to setting a date of May 26 for the re-mention of the case.

Last Friday, Muhyiddin who is also a Pagoh Member of Parliament faced six charges involving money in accounts belonging to the Bersatu party at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to four charges that as the Prime Minister of Malaysia and President of Bersatu he used his position to accept bribes amounting to RM232.5 million.

This includes two more charges as Bersatu President who has received money from illegal activities amounting to RM195 million.
