KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia registered a total of 6,069 new daily COVID-19 infections yesterday, a significant dip from the previous day’s 7,140 new cases.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the overall total of infections now stands at 4,402,234 since the start of the pandemic in the country.

According to the data on the COVIDNOW website, there are 110 new imported cases, with 5,959 being local transmissions.

The Health Ministry (MOH) recorded 10,619 new recoveries, taking the total number of those recovered and discharged to 4,274,746.

Currently there are 92,039 active cases, 97 are being held in intensive care and 64 of those are in need of breathing assistance.

Another 12 COVID-related deaths were reported yesterday, of which one was classified as brought-in-dead (BID).
Malaysia has so far lost 35,449 lives nationwide to the coronavirus since the pandemic started.

Meanwhile, a total of 47,612 doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered on Tuesday, with 84.6 per cent of the population having received at least one dose, 80.6 per cent have been fully vaccinated and 48.9 per cent have received boosters.
