SHAH ALAM: Indonesia created another proud achievement in the republic's badminton arena, when its women's team was crowned champions of the 2022 Badminton Asian Team Championship (BATC) after beating South Korea 3-1, here today.
This is Indonesia’s first championship since the tournament began in 2016, while South Korea, who repeated their feat in the 2020 edition, had to be content with a runner -up position.
Indonesia got off to an excellent start when 2017 World Junior Champion Gregoria Mariska Tunjung put on an 'A' performance to beat Sim Yujin 21-9, 21-10 in just 26 minutes
However, South Korea did not give up and tied the score at 1-1 through their main pair Baek Ha Na-Seong Seung Yeong.
The 14th ranked world pair managed to win the match with a rubber set that lasted for one hour and five minutes, against Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma-Amalia Cahaya Pratiwi, 21-15, 14-21, 21-14.
In the third match, Indonesia regained the lead after Putri Kusuma Wardani defeated Lee Se Yeon 21-10, 21-18.
After a fierce clash in the first set, Nita Violina Marwah-Lanny Tria Mayasari defeated Kim Min Ji-Park Min Jeong in the next set, thus guaranteeing the BATC 2022 trophy to belong to Indonesia.
Nita-Lanny recorded victory points for Indonesia after beating Min Ji-Min Jeong, 23-21, 21-11.
Meanwhile, Nita when met by reporters after the match at the Setia City Convention Center, said she was proud and dedicated the victory to 'Bangsa Indonesia'.
"We are very happy with this victory, this trophy is for 'Bangsa Indonesia' for sure," she said.
Although her national team send the second stringers to the BATC this time, Nita was happy to have the opportunity to be a part of the competition, as the valuable experience gained boosted her confidence to play at a higher level.
Indonesian doubles coach Prasetyo Restu Basuki was happy to see the success of his charges today as it surpassed their initial target to advance to the semi -finals.
