44 compounded smoking on food premises

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 44 offense notices involving a compound value of RM11,000 were issued to individuals detected smoking at food premises in an integrated operation around the capital on Monday.
Director of the Disease Control Division of the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH), Datuk Dr Norhayati Rusli said, a total of 262 food premises around Bukit Bintang, Bangsar and Jalan Alor here were inspected in the operation which started at 8pm.
"During the operation, a total of 44 customers received offense notices in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Tobacco Products Control Regulations (PPKHT) 2004.
"A total of eight notices involving a compound value of RM4,000 were issued to the owners of the premises in accordance with Regulation 12 PPKHT 2004 for not displaying the smoking ban sign," he said at a press conference in Bukit Bintang here on Monday.
Norhayati said the operation was carried out by the MOH together with the Inspectorate and State Legal Unit of the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur/Putrajaya Health Department and Kuala Lumpur City Hall.
“The MOH is serious about tackling the smoking problem and a new act that is being enacted will be tabled soon.
"The new act also prohibits generations born on January 1, 2005 onwards, from owning and buying any smoking products," he said.
He said enforcement of the ban on smoking in eateries will be carried out continuously.
He reminded the public to abide by the set rules and any complaints related to smoking in public places can be channeled through the WhatsApp application at 010-8608949.

On January 1, 2019, the government enforced a ban on smoking in open -air eateries and restaurants.
