KUALA LUMPUR: The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public Service (Cuepacs) has once again reiterated the proposed new minimum wage of RM1,800 per month for the public sector compared to RM1,200 per month currently.

Cuepacs president Datuk Adnan Mat said his party had previously raised the matter with the Prime Minister and proposed a salary of RM1,800 a month as he thought the figure was reasonable for the government to assess.

"At the same time, the Prime Minister also informed in the Cabinet and in Parliament on Nov 27 that under the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK12), the government targets (status as) a high-income country by 2025 by placing household income at RM10. , 000.

"However, the target under the 12MP will certainly not be achieved if the new minimum wage is not changed by the government itself," he said when being a virtual guest on Bernama TV's Correspondent program entitled 'Determining the Fate of Civil Servants' today.

He also said that previously, the government had stipulated that the salaries of civil servants be reviewed every 10 years and the last time the civil service remuneration system was reviewed was in 2002.

“Cuepacs sees when the government itself sets every 10 years it means this year is a year that requires the government to review it.

"The new remuneration system should be able to meet the needs of civil servants to receive a comfortable salary, commensurate with the cost of minimum daily expenses which has also changed with (prices) of goods increasing many times since last year," he said.
