Cosmetics entrepreneur, husband is accused of injuring a child
PASIR MAS: A cosmetics entrepreneur and her husband pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court here today to the charge of causing injury to the woman's daughter, last Monday.
The accused, Nurul Atikah Hanafi and Mohd Hairie Razali, both 33 years old, made the confession before Magistrate Muhammad Yusoff Abdullah.
According to the charge, Nurul Atikah and Mohd Hairie, who is also the victim's stepfather, were charged with intentionally causing injury to the 16-year-old three-month-old victim at a house in Kampung Pauh, here, at about 4.30pm, on June 14.
The accused committed an offense under Section 323 of the Penal Code and is punishable under the same section read together with Section 326A of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same code.
If convicted, he can be sentenced to up to one year in prison or a maximum fine of RM2,000 or both.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor, Mohd Hakimie Ab Hadi who did not offer any guarantee to the two accused.
Lawyer Muhammad Hasif Hassan, who represented the two accused, applied for bail at the minimum rate because the accused woman was five months pregnant.
"They cooperated well when they surrendered to the police and lived in Pasir Mas," he said.
The court allowed each accused bail of RM9,000 with one surety. The two accused then paid bail.
The court ordered the two accused to report to the Pasir Mas Police Station twice a month and set August 18 as the case re-mention date.
Media previously reported that the cosmetics entrepreneur and her husband were arrested by the police, yesterday on suspicion of beating their 16 -year -old daughter after being angry with the teenager's action of uploading a status on WhatsApp.
