Nora Anne's family received scam email demanding ransom - Witness

SEREMBAN, Sept 3 -- A witness of the inquest proceeding on the cause of death of Nora Anne Quorin said that the family of the teenager had received an e-mail demanding ransom.

Negri Sembilan police headquarters Serious Crimes (D9) staff officer Superintendent Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said he was informed by ACP Nik Ezaner Mohd Faisal who was the police liaison officer to the family.

"He said the family of the missing teenager had received an email demanding two bitcoins (equivalent to RM23,000) as ransom,” he said when testifying at the proceeding which entered the seventh day today.

Wan Azlan said the status of the email was known on the same night after internet protocol (IP) tracking showed it came from Virginia, United States with the help of International Police (Interpol).

Meanwhile, witness number 13, Negri Sembilan CID (Investigation/Legal) deputy chief, Supt Lee Kui Lin said the investigation paper on the death of Nora Anne was handed over to Attorney-General’s Chambers on Aug 29, more than two weeks after the body of the teenager was found on Aug 13 last year.

“The investigation paper sent had been completed. Our investigation with the statements of 91 witnesses as well as 57 finger prints taken to assist investigations in terms of forensic and pathology on the body, showed there was no criminal element involved,” he said.

The proceeding inquest conducted before Coroner Maimoonah Aid would involve 64 witnesses being called to testify.

Nora Anne, 15, was found missing on Aug 4, one day after arriving with her family in Malaysia for a two-week holiday at a resort in Pantai here about 60 kilometres from the federal capital.

On Aug 13, the body of Nora Anne was found near a stream in a ravine about 2.5 kilometres from the resort following a large-scale search carried out by the authorities.

The inquest proceeding will resume tomorrow (Sept 4).
