ALOR SETAR, June 11 -- Two heavily pregnant women were among 10 individuals arrested after being found positive on drugs in Op Cegah conducted by the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) in Kuala Muda, about 70 km from here, yesterday.

Kuala Muda District AADK chief Arnida Ishak said a 26-year-old, eight-month pregnant woman was arrested along with her 36-year-old husband at their home in Flat Paya Nahu 2, along with another man and woman.

"A urine test found all of them positive for shabu. During the raid, two boys and a girl, between two and eight years old, were also inside the house," she said in a statement here today.

She said in a separate raid on Flat Paya Nahu, a 27-year-old woman, who was seven months pregnant and living alone, was detained at her home at 10.30 am, after being found positive on morphine.

"Another 26-year-old woman living in the same area was also arrested after she was found positive on syabu. In addition, two women and two men between the ages of 26 and 39 were also detained in six hotspots around Kuala Muda during operations starting at 8.30 am to 4.30 pm that afternoon.

"All those who are positively arrested after being found positive on syabu and morphine will be investigated under Section 3 (1) of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 which allows them to undergo treatment and rehabilitation programmes with the AADK," she said.

Arnida said in the operation this time showed an increase of drug addicts among women and it was worrying because some of them were pregnant and had small children.
