TAWAU, June 23 -- Tawau Health Office has recorded 488 dengue cases in the district from January to date, said its officer, Dr G.Navindran.

He said the cases involved Taman Semarak Fasa 2B, Taman Semarak Fasa 2A, Taman Semarak Megah, Pasir Putih, Tinagat and Brantian.

“Taman Semarak Fasa 2B and Taman Semarak Fasa 2A were declared as outbreak localities, while Taman Semarak Megah was declared as a dengue hotspot due to an outbreak for more than 30 days,” he said when contacted.

He said members of the public must ensure their residential surroundings are clean and free from Aedes mosquito breeding grounds .

“While trying to curb COVID-19 in Tawau, we are also facing dengue cases,” he said, adding that preventive measures taken by all residents will help in reducing the Aedes mosquito population.

He added the rainy season which resulted in more stagnant water, also brought about more Aedes mosquito breeding sites.
