KUALA LUMPUR: The coalition government of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will crumble if six UMNO MPs standing trial in court were convicted.
To avoid that, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Muhyiddin would ensure that the six leaders were innocent.
"If these six people are found guilty by the court, they will no longer represent the people (as Members of Parliament – MPs). With that, Muhyiddin will be left with the support of 108 (MPs) - less than half.
"Then the Muhyiddin government will fall. That is why Muhyiddin will decide that the six representatives of the people will be found innocent," he said in a post on chedet.cc blog on Saturday.
The six UMNO MPs as referred to by Dr Mahathir are Datuk Seri Najib Razak (Pekan), Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (Bagan Datuk), Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor (Putrajaya), Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim (Baling), Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan (Pontian) and Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin (Kinabatangan).
Dr Mahathir said such a thing had already been witnessed when Najib's stepson, Riza Aziz and former Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman were discharged by the court on charges of breach of trust.
The Langkawi MP is also confident that the six MPs will be 'saved' by Muhyiddin to ensure that his government continues to gain the majority to govern.
At the moment, Muhyiddin has the majority support of only 114 out of the 222 MPs in the Dewan Rakyat.
"The world will laugh at seeing this ‘backdoor government’ spin the law. The guilty ones ended up not guilty, the right ones become the wrong ones, the winner becomes the loser, the loser then wins.
"Good job.
New norms have been created," he added sarcastically.
