Nabbed: Duo who assaulted bus driver and wreaked havoc at police station

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police have arrested two men who attacked a tour bus driver at Gelang Patah on Friday (Jan 24), then got violent when being questioned at a police station.
The assault was recorded on a video that went viral on social media, showing one man beating the bus driver repeatedly with his fist, and kicking him on the head.
The bus driver can be heard shouting for help, and in obvious pain. The attacker ignored his pleas and continued to beat him.
The three-and-a-half minute video was recorded by a passenger after the bus had collided with a four-wheel-drive driven by one of the attackers at a traffic light junction at Jalan Gelang Patah-Pendas here.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Kamarudin Md Din said the two men were apprehended on the same day of the incident.
“The incident occurred at about 1.45pm on Friday after the tour bus and the suspect’s car collided at a traffic light.
“The bus driver came out to check out the condition of the suspects’ vehicle, but he was punched and so fled into his bus, ” he said.
Comm Kamarudin added that the victim suffered injuries to his head and hands, while the suspects caused damage to the inside of the bus before the fight was stopped by members of the public at scene.
A police patrol car that arrived at the scene ordered both suspects to lodge a police report regarding the accident at the nearest traffic police station.
“However, one of the suspects let out a racial slur and exhibited indecent behaviour, throwing a chair while being questioned at the Iskandar Puteri district police headquarters.
“The duo had also acted aggressively toward police personnel, ” he said.
According to Comm Kamarudin, the duo also assaulted the jail guard.
When asked whether the duo was from a secret society, he said that the matter was still being investigated, under Section 353 of the Penal Code for assaulting a public servant, and Section 90 of the Police Act for indecent behaviour inside a police station.
The case is also investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and causing loss or damage, and Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
