KOTA KINABALU: Umno Youth member Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, better known as Papagomo, was heckled and accosted by unknown people at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport here as he was leaving to board a flight to Kuala Lumpur on Sunday (Jan 19).

It could not be immediately ascertained the reason for the heckling but the youths were seen in several videos demanding that Papagamo apologise for allegedly tearing up a picture of Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal during the just concluded Kimanis by-election.

In the videos uploaded by Facebook users, some angry people were seen heckling him as they shouted “kau minta maaf la sana CM” (ask for forgiveness from the CM).

A picture of Papagomo allegedly tearing Shafie's picture had made its round on social media during the Kimanis election that ended on Saturday (Jan 18).

It could not be ascertained if the picture is fake and it is believed that the people at the airport were angry over his alleged action.

Kota Kinabalu City police chief Asst Comm Habibi Manjinji, when contacted, said that the matter had been settled and confirmed that a report was lodged.

Papagamo was in Kimanis to campaign for Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Mohamad Alamin.

Barisan defended the Kimanis parliamentary seat by a handsome majority of 2,029 votes.

Mohamad secured 12,706 votes against Parti Warisan Sabah candidate Datuk Karim Bujang’s 10,677 in a hotly contested battle.

The win is Barisan’s fifth out of 10 by-elections held nationwide since the General Election on May 9, 2018.
