KUALA LUMPUR: The incident, which led to a police corporal firing several shots outside an entertainment outlet at Jalan Tun Razak, was caused by a disagreement between his acquaintance and another party, says Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim.

The Kuala Lumpur police chief said the 33-year-old policeman had gone to the club along with one male and four female acquaintances on Sunday (Aug 4) night.

"At 5.25am (Monday), an argument broke out between one of the policeman's female acquaintances and others.

"He then fired his pistol into the air to disperse some 20 people involved in the fight, " Comm Mazlan said in a statement Monday (Aug 5).

All of those involved had fled the scene but the policeman was apprehended by security guards at the entertainment centre, who handed him over to the authorities.

"The guards also took his weapon and handed it to the police.

"Urine test of the policeman revealed negative for drugs, " Comm Mazlan said.

The police view the matter involving any rank-and-file or even senior officers who broke the law while going to entertainment outlets, seriously, he added.

"Stern action will be taken if an offence is committed, " he said.

Comm Mazlan urged anyone with information to contact senior investigating officer Asst Supt Shahrizal Salleh at 017-7134705, investigating officer Insp Mohd Hanif Akmal Che Hussin at 012-9840140 or the KL police hotline at 03-21159999 or any nearest police station.
