Businessman shot dead in Kuantan

KUANTAN: A businessman was killed after he was shot at Jalan Air Putih here last night.
In the 1.30am incident, the 63-year-old victim was behind the wheel of a Toyota Estima when a suspect armed with a gun shot at him from outside the vehicle.
Pahang police chief Datuk Abd Jalil Hassan said initial investigation found that the victim and his friend just got back from an entertainment outlet in the district when he was shot.
“The victim just arrived at a house and was about to get out of his car when he was shot. His friend managed to escape and hide.
“The victim then drove himself to go to the hospital, before he was found unconscious in front of a pharmacy,” said Abd Jalil after attending the monthly assembly at the Pahang Police Contingent Headquarters here today.
Abd Jalil added that members of the public brought the victim to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital before he was pronounced dead.
Further investigation found the victim had three gunshot wounds on several parts of his body.
“We are investigating the type of weapon used by the suspect and the motive,” said Abd Jalil.
Following the incident, the victim’s friend, aged 47, has been detained to facilitate investigation.
“The victim and his friend were from Johor Baru and they were in Kuantan for business,” Abd Jalil said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
